Day 1 of Competition

When we were invited to this tournament, we were really excited because we knew we would get a chance to meet and compete against foreign teams. Although we've only played for one day, so far the competition has been tough. This tournament will help us get to the next level of volleyball, and its giving us the chance to experience international rules that many people haven't experienced. For example, the shared hitting, the subbing with the paddles, and the technical time-outs at 8 and 16 are rules we've never seen before in club and high school. California has some of the toughest volleyball competition in the US, and to get onto an international level is a great opportunity to experience tougher volleyball than that in Southern California.

Putting volleyball aside, the chance to meet new people has also been a great experience for us. Yesterday we had borsch (spelling?) with the Russians; it's a Russian stew with potatoes, chicken, beets, etc. and it was actually quite good. Also we got the Chinese men's team to dance to our hip-hop music which was really entertaining. So not only are we developing as volleyball players, we are developing as young adults, meeting and communicating with teams from other countries. With that note, Dahsveedanya, and thanks for this experience.
