Day 2, USA HP Men’s Team Update
By Dylan Kordic, USA HP Mens Team
My name is Dylan Kordic and I'm a member of the US High Performance Team along with my 7 other teammates from across the country. Before we arrived here in Salt Lake City we were over in Colorado Springs, Colorado with a total of 24 guys training at the Olympic Training Center, which in itself was an experience. We got to watch some of the best athletes in the nation train for their various sports such as: fencing, weightlifting, swimming, wrestling, and of course volleyball. Before every practice we had the privilege of watching either the World University Games Men's Team or the Women's National Team. However, by far the best part of Colorado Springs was the cafeteria. All you can eat buffet 24/7 free of charge. We must have had 5 meals a day.
We finally arrived here in Salt Lake City late Sunday night, so we missed the opening ceremonies. The next day our first match was against the SoCal Regional High Performance Team (SCVA). We know most of the players on that team from club volleyball so we came out pretty pumped up and ended up winning in 4 sets. But later that day we played the SoCal Regional Youth National Team and didn't play our best. In other words they swept us in 3 straight sets.
We only had one game today against the US Youth A2 team, who was also with us in Colorado. We played better, but still lost in 4 sets. So as of now our record is 1-2 - not terrible but we can do better. Tomorrow we play one of the Chinese Teams at 8 AM and the Northern California (NCVA) Team later in the day. We're all looking forward to playing China so hopefully we'll do well. I'll let you all know how that goes. I'm done for now.
