Day 3, Snowbird with the Slovenians

By Emillie Toone and Sydney Anderson

Well, today we played the Slovenians. It was a tough game, but we came out with a V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! We then took our opponents up to Snowbird after the game for a little cultural experience We carpooled up, and luckily made it up there safely through the heat and exhaustion which we were experiencing from the match we played earlier! When we got there, the Slovenians were amazed by the little squirrels. We didn't think that they were that fascinating, but it made us step back and think: Maybe we should appreciate more of the nature that surrounds us!

The Alpine Slide was next, and boy was that a thrill. Many of the Slovenians thought it was frightening to go on the slide because when we were going up to the slide, we saw a little boy make his way down the steep and narrow slide. As he got the courage to go faster to beat his buddy on the other slide, he forgot that he had to slow down on the turns. As he approached the turn in front of us, he was going too fast and his sled went out of control. He flew off the edge and rolled for about 20 feet. OK, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it freaked out the Slovenians a little. When we finally got to the slide, the Slovenians finally got the courage to go down and they loved it!

Next was the zip-line. It was intense, so intense that some of the Slovenians decided not to go, but the ones that did experienced a once in a life time opportunity. There was a certain way that you had to ride the zip-line in order to go fast and it was hard to explain to the Slovenians, but they were very cooperative and made it a great experience.

Once we all met together after all of the rides, we enjoyed the scenery and took pictures with each other. When we got back to the dorms, we had an ice cream social with all of the teams. That was awesome for everyone to be together and talk to each other. This has been a great experience to meet people from other countries and share the similarities and differences between each other’s lives. For example the Slovenian coach said that our mountains remind him of the mountains in Slovenia. This truly has been a once and a life time opportunity for all of us. Never pass the chance to talk to someone from a different country because you truly learn a lot! THANKS!
