| Last year there were more North Americans playing in Europe than ever before. As of January 1st, 1998 there were 16 in Holland alone. This is the only country in Europe that has lifted foreign player restrictions and we are taking full advantage. Working on an idea from Bring It Promotions, Vrevok turned to the "American Idea" and hired six Americans to try and win the Dutch League and Cup Championships. B.I.P. not only headed the player selection, but also came up with some financial support from US companies and donors. The players earned less money than they might have elsewhere, but the environment warrants the sacrifice. In exchange for this funding, the team allows B.I.P. to appease their American sponsors by participating in foreign exhibitions, tournaments, youth clinics, and other promotional events whenever possible.
The team started the season with some injuries and bad luck, but went on to finish 4th in the League and secure a berth in European Cup play for the 1998-9 season. We are still looking to add more sponsors for next season and the seasons to come. This revolutionary team is a perfect forum for volleyball or other sports related companies to get some exposure in Holland and all of western Europe. The team has already traveled in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, and Tunisia and will travel the globe in European Cup play in 1999.
Aside from our most generous principal donor, we would like to thank Nike Volleyball USA, Paul Mitchell, and TCS Telecommunications for their support and assistance.
For 1998-9, Bring It Promotions is taking the "American Idea" to women's professional volleyball. Read about Martinus, Holland. |
