Today our team traveled with the USA Youth Team to Croatia for a match. We left our hotel in Maribor around 8:30 and began our two and a half hour journey to Zagreb, Croatia. We arrived a little bit early and took a walk around the facility we were playing in. It was a great facility meant just for volleyball. The USA Youth Team was supposed to play the Croatian Youth National Team first while we ate at the pizzeria nearby and then we would play the top club team in Croatia (Mladost Zagreb) afterwards. While we waited we went to a café that was right next to the gym and got hot chocolate. Right as we were finishing, Steve came in and told us that four of the players from the National Team were stuck in a snow storm and were going to be late so we had to play first.

We won the first game of our match but then ended up losing the next three. We were happy though because it was our first win of the trip. We are playing better as a team and everyone is improving on their low points as the trip progresses and it showed in the first match. We did have a slight advantage since Nichole Davis, the libero of the USA Women’s National Team, got talked into playing on our team. Here there was really no age limit since some of the girls on the other team were much older. She did help us a lot since she played back row and outside hitter.

Afterwards we went to the pizzeria nearby to eat while the USA Youth Team played. We ordered pizza Margarita (cheese pizza) and each girl on the team got their own half a pizza. Kelly S. and Stephanie N. ate the most pizza by far. Afterwards we continued on our trip to Belgrade, Serbia. It was a five hour trip and quite a few of the girls from both teams kept ourselves busy by playing “Catch Phrase” for a good portion of the trip. Most everyone slept at some point. We then arrived at Hotel Rex in Belgrade, ate dinner, got our rooms, and went to sleep.
