January European Exposure Tour 2001

Day 7 – Wednesday, Jan. 17

Hey, I’m Erin Grady from San Diego State University, and we’re on the bus yet again for another lovely 4-5 hour trip, but it’s not so bad this time because the scenery outside is beautiful.  Well, I had the flu for the last 3 days so, today was a better day for me because I was feeling well enough to play again.  We rode the bus from Munster to Ulm, Germany, a really cute town (my favorite so far).  Right when we got to town, we met the girls we were going to play that night and ate some more German food.  I had a pizza.  They all seemed nice and spoke English pretty well.  The manager of the team paid for everything, including dinner after the match.  He took us on a brief tour of the town, and it was adorable.  We left and the gym was a half- hour away.  By the time we got there, the gym already had a crowd waiting for the game to start, and we were just arriving.  We had about 20 minutes to get ready and warm up, which didn’t really work for me because let’s just say I was sort of stuck in the bathroom for about 15 minutes.  Eating strange foods will do that to you, I guess.  Anyway, we played pretty good tonight. Each game was really close, but we only ended up winning in the third game out of five.  But again, we played pretty decent, just couldn’t finish the deal.  What was really cool was the crowd cheered for both teams and they were great.  They were really into the games which was great.  After the games, we went to dinner with the other team and it was a four –course meal, definitely the best yet.  Soup, salad, I had the rice and vegetables and the dessert was ice cream, raspberries and whipped cream, yum!  So, we got to our new hostel pretty late, around 11pm and the bus had stopped to get some of the girls some snacks. I went to bed around 2:30am after I called home to the states.  Was overall a pretty darn good day.
