Day 7, Friday, January 14, 2005

Today we got up and had to pack our bags out of the Hotel Arena since there is going to be a World Cup skiing competition there in the next few weeks. We moved our bags into Tim’s room for the day and took off for practice. Practice was run by two coaches that coach here in Maribor.
One was Slovenian ( Hvala Mitja!) and the other was French (Merci Bernard). It was very beneficial for us to practice with coaches that aren’t native English speakers since it would be a small taste of what it might be like for us in the future. The coaches were good, and taught us some of their own techniques and methods of doing things. That was an adjustment, along with understanding their drills, but again, totally great to see what it might be like.
After practice, we moved into the Garni Hotel Milena that was just down the street. We then had a few hours to go to town or just relax before supper. For supper we went to Anderlicht; a winery in Maribor for eating and wine tasting.
It was sort of up on a hill, and had a great view when there was still sunlight. Supper was awesome, and for the wine drinkers, so were the drinks. After that, some people stayed for more wine tasting in the cellar, and some people went home. Later everyone sort of did their own thing but most people either went to Club Bongos downtown, or just out for drinks. Maribor is absolutely beautiful, and is inundated with culture. Too bad we have to leave tomorrow.
Editor’s Notes: Sarah is on Doug’s Team, and they trained as a team with Mitja and Bernard at 10:30am. These great Nova KBM trainers were kind enough to also run an hour-and-a-half training for JR’s Team at 9:00am, and include 8 of Cory’s players in their own team’s 1:00pm training that afternoon.
