January European Exposure Tour '05

Day 6, Thursday, January 13, 2005
By Mary Clare Coghlan

This morning we woke up, had a nice breakfast and departed the Hotel Arena for the capital city of Slovenia: Ljubljana. The bus ride was only about 2 hours and it was a gorgeous drive. We arrived and had a few hours to sightsee and were to meet up before our game at the train station. It was quite a busy little city and it had ton of shops. There were many stores that had more than 3 levels in them. A bunch of us ate at a Mexican restaurant and we were all very happy to eat fajitas.

We sat down and had some coffee at a little café in a hotel and the café latte that I had was awesome. We hopped on the bus and went over to play the Ljubljana team. We played 6 games and went 2-4. This was the most fun team that we have played. We all took pictures with them after the match.

Everyday, a few other things mesh together more than the match before so we are all very pleased with the progression. We finely dined at McDonalds and then enjoyed some Slovenian wine on the bus ride home and met up with JR’s team. I am in awe of how gorgeous Slovenia is and how nice the people have been. The Hotel Arena was preparing to host a World Cup Ski Competition so we were able to witness all the madness for that. Our hotel rooms were at the base of the ski run and it was so beautiful!

Editor’s Note: JR’s Team spent the day in Maribor and had a match against the local Nova KBM Junior Team. Many of these players are on the Slovenian Junior National Team and it’s a solid squad:

JR vs. Nova KBM Juniors (under 18) 3-1, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13
