The BIP New Year’s Bash - Day Six

Day 6, Saturday, January 1, 2005 – Part 1
By Alison Young- Birmingham Volleyball Club
Cierra Pillsbury- JJVA

Hello! This morning we all got to sleep a little later than usual. Some people went skiing and others just lazed around until it was time to go sledding. Skiers, Lauren, Cierra, Kirsten and Caitlin all hit the slopes first thing in the morning. Then the skiers came back for lunch and then afterward we all went to the center of Maribor. Some went to McDonald’s and others just went sight seeing. Those who went to Mickey D’s met up with some fellow Americans who just happened to be from Jacksonville. And the others who went around the town saw some beautiful sights and places. After we returned from the city center, we hung out until dinner time. After dinner, some people hit the slopes for the last time and managed to get down the mountain in no more than 10 minutes. The people that were planning to sled headed out to the gondolas to ride to the mountain top. They rode all the way down on sleds and it was insane, and everyone fell at some time or another. Now we are packing up our suitcases to head out to Vienna. Adios!

Day 6, Part 2
By Laura La Rosa-Blaze Volleyball Club

Today was a pretty laid back day for everyone. I slept in until about 12 but a few early risers got up to hit the slopes. Lunch was at 1:45 and then a few people went back out to the mountain. I rode the bus into town with a group to sightsee. Keep in mind our main goal was to seek out a McDonalds. On the city bus I met two Mormon missionaries; one was from Utah and the other from California. That just goes to show it’s pretty amazing who you can run into. After we returned we ate dinner and had a quick briefing. Leah, Chelsea, and I headed to the spa in the 5 star Habakuk Hotel next door. We were pretty amazed because the pool area where we were seemed like a small water park instead of a spa. In addition, there were WAY too many men in Speedos strutting around that place. We were treated differently that I would expect in a 5 star, but then it could just be how every hotel is here in Europe. I mean what we had to go through to get a towel! But the tablecloth they gave us instead seemed to work just fine. Afterward about 30 people headed up the mountain to go sledding. Now everyone seems to be winding down for the night, preparing for our departure to Vienna (and then Prague) in the morning. Since Tori seems to think everyone here knows Spanish, I too will leave you with “Adios!”

It’s embarrassing how much these American girls like to talk to about McD’s
