Arrival in Buenos Aires and First Training
by Jessie Shull

We¹re finally here! After each of us got off our ten hour red-eye flight, we were a little bit sleepy, but for the most part thrilled to finally be in Buenos Aires. The whole team, 14 players and 2 coaches arrived by 9:00 a.m., where our bus met us and took us to our home for the next few days ³Embajador Hotel.²

All of the girls and coaches checked into their rooms as Jen Seftleben and I waited for our room to be prepared. It ended up being worth the twenty minute wait because we ended up in 1202, the pent house. After catching up on some much needed sleep, we went down for lunch where we got our first experience with Argentinian food. Everyone did their best and at least tried a taste of everything.

After lunch, we received our gear, (uniforms, spandex, and sweats) and, for the first time, started looking like a team. When we left for the gym, we were all pretty excited to see how good, or how rusty, each of would we be. Although many of us spent the last few years playing against one another, it took no time at all for us to get used to playing on the same side of the net. For the first day, considering the jet lag and cobwebs and Charlie likes to call it, we were pretty decent, and will only get better as the trip goes on.

To end our first day in Buenos Aires, we spent time after dinner up on the pent house balcony getting to know each other better. We shared lots of laughs, good stories of our teams and teammates back home, and had the pleasure of seeing 4 of the girls perform Don't Cry For Me Argentina. All in all, I couldn¹t have asked for a better first day or better teammates, This is sure to be one heck of a trip!
