Coach's Comment on First Scrimmage
Practice match vs. Argentine Nat. Team
Oscar Crespo San Jose State University

With two light practices we took the court against the Argentine National Team in a friendly competition / practice. The goal was to achieve some sense of rhythm and cohesiveness. It was a good practice session with all players contributing for four full games. Scores went to the Argentineans at 19-25, 12-25, 11-25 and 25-11.

As we approached playing we focused on two solid teams with letting them play with very little substitutions. So as a squad they received two solid games per player. Leading the offence was Linzy Kearney with 8 kills, Offensive swings were led by Taylor Groess, Jen Senftleben, Missie Stidham and Johana Hilbers. The offense was balanced and controlled well enough with only two practices. Jessie Shull played the libero spot for all four games. Both Cayle and Ashley did a good job setting and running the offense. Highlights where Missy serving very well and scoring with her serve and Taylor jumping in during game four and blocking four consecutive balls. It was good to get some kinks out and get to know protocol at the international level.

The team enjoyed playing against a well balanced team that is very offensive minded and focused on scoring oints. Two areas that we look to improve and gain as a team and individuals. The group of girls on tour are very exited to see what playing in front of an international crowd is like and in environment where volleyball is highly visible. As a coach I am looking forward to the teams reaction once we step in against Argentina in a competitive match which we will play tomorrow evening.

For tonight we will board a bus for an 8 hour bus ride to San Francisco where we will play our first match. We will be riding the bus along with the Argentinean Team, it will be a great opportunity for the players to get to know each other.
