Day 1 – Munich - Innsbruck
By Katie Vohnoutka
Northern Lights 17-2
As soon as new got off the plane and into the airport we noticed that it was really quiet, it was like we were at a golf match. We all were whispering trying not to make too much noise. It was so cool to hear people speaking in different languages, even though we had no idea what they were saying. We met Cori, he is very nice. Our bus is yellow, not as bright as a school bus. It’s still easy to pick out in a crowd of buses.
Our first stop was Dachau, a concentration camp. It was only twenty to thirty minutes away from the airport. There were so many people at the camp it was crazy. We noticed that most of the German teenagers dress punk with Mohawks. Way different than in the United States. There was so much to look at and read in the museum. It was so cool; it is hard to believe that people were treated like that.
Then next, place we went after that was Ludwig’s castle, Linderhof. Everything was so pretty and extravagant at his castle. There was a lot of gold on the inside, and a lot of detail put into each room. No wonder this was the only castle that he finished. After the tour, we went to see the man made cave. The cave wasn’t as cool as I thought it was going to be. There wasn’t much to see inside the cave, there was only a little boat.
We stopped at a little restaurant for lunch. They had really good pasta. Dinner was the highlight. Wiener schnitzel with pomes frites and salat. The Wiener schnitzel tasted a lot like pork chops, the pomes frites were a lot more buttery than normal French fries. The salat had vinegar dressing; I didn’t like it so much. All we were missing in dessert. We had Apple Strudel with vanilla ice cream. It was soooooo good. By this time we were all so tired that all we wanted to do is just go to sleep in an actual bed.

Breakfast was really good. I had a roll with orange marmalade. Yummy!!! After breakfast we went back to our rooms and packed. We were able to go shopping in downtown Innsbruck. First, we had a scavenger hunt. It was a lot of fun, there were so many streets that it was hard to remember where you came from. My group, Chelsea, Anna and I won the hunt by two minutes. We had lunch at the Magic Pizza. The slices were HUGE!! They were bigger than Sabarro’s. We had to make our way back to the bus, for our five hour ride to Italy. So far this trip has been a lot of fun
