Day 9 – Sarajevo

Northern Lights 16-1
Today was a very exciting day! We woke up around 8:30, went down and had bread for breakfast with some delicious watermelon from the director of the Tuzla Volleyball Club and also the president of the Bosnian Volleyball Club. We returned to our rooms after to finish packing up quickly and then we headed to the bus.
We spent a little over an hour in downtown Tuzla, shopping around and sightseeing some of the areas that were affected by the war. We also went to see a memorial for 71 victims that were killed in a bombing in downtown Tuzla, which was very sad to see; one of the boys killed was only two years old.
We grabbed some ice cream and headed to the bus for our ride to Sarajevo. It took approximately 2 ½ hours to get there, winding through the small roads through the hills of Bosnia.
When we got to Sarajevo, we unpacked quickly and were very excited to see that our new home for the next four days, Hotel Imzit, not only had a gas station and a restaurant but it most importantly had air conditioning! We were all very excited about that. In between the mess of things, we met the owner of not only the Imzit hotels, but also a few gas stations, and the Sarajevo Volleyball Club. After, we headed downtown for some shopping and dinner; we had chevachci and other native dishes from Sarajevo. We then went to the other Imzit hotel which we had graciously been invited to by the owner for some pancakes and baked apple desserts which were very good.
After a long day of traveling, walking, and great food we returned to the hotel for a good night’s sleep!
