Day 3: Bus To Berlin
Kristy Jaeckel and Becci Burling
We woke up and had breakfast at the Olympic rowing center. We had authentic German cereal and rolls. After breakfast, we headed over to the Dachau concentration camp and felt privileged to see what it was about. It was great to have the opportunity to learn about everything the prisoners went through. It was really hard looking at the barracks and the crematorium, it truly was a once in a life time experience.
We loaded up the bus and started our six hour journey to Berlin. The autobahn was exhilarating and made the bus trip go by fast. We noticed that all the cars are very new and small. It was fun watching all of them speed past us.
We stopped for lunch at a market place right off the autobahn. We ate at buffet style restaurant and ordered beef paddies with French fries. It was SO good!! The beef paddies tasted similar to the taste of meatloaf. We also thought that we would be concerned without having ice in our drinks, but to our surprise they were cold. After lunch we paid to use the bathroom and then jumped back on the autobahn.
After hours of countless fun with both teams sharing stories, playing games, and laughing hysterically, we arrived in Berlin. We had dinner at our living quarters in a very nice cafeteria. We ate chicken stuffed with a creamy spinach filling and more rolls (they’re pretty good here). After dinner we walked to the practice facility and practiced. We walked back to our rooms and took much needed showers and settled in for a right nice good night’s sleep.
