Northern Lights U18's in Italy

Day Three Ravenna:

Most of us have been playing volleyball our whole lives. We are used to succeeding at the highest level possible and enjoy beating teams. We are used to the balls being light and airy, not as hard as the ground on Christmas Eve night in 1964. Although we enjoy tanning, it is not something we like to do while playing volleyball indoors. Even though we are all extreemly intelligent, and have been taking math classes sense the age of two, having twenty vectors on a court is not our kind of geometry. Like in the movie Aladdin, this is a WHOLE new world.

After the eventful bus ride from Rome, which was filled with Tawny and Lauren rapping, One Tree Hill watching, and Allie’s excessive drooling on Kresson’s pillow we finally reached our destination. A hotel that was set on the Adriatic sea in the town of Ravenna. Even through the Adriatic sea may drain into the Pacific Ocean, it was unnecessary that our shower water drain into the living room. Which Susan, Lauren, and Brook experienced first hand. Once the hotel extravaganza came to an end it was time for some hardcore European volleyball.

We arrived at the gymnasium not expecting the court to be as sticky as molasses. The molastastic floor helped our poor Al-Dawg keep her footing. Cor-dawg informed us that we would be playing a team who was classified as B1. Some of these girls wish to go pro in the future, while others solely play for the love of the game. They rage from ages 18-29 and they were good. Once the match started we soon found out they were a little more than we could handle on this particular day. They had one lady on their team whom we have taken the honor to name “the best jump server in all of America”. Her serve fell like a dead bird from the sky and was as fast as a torpedo under water. Her serve aced Hailey and I every single time and knowing Sue Cowles she would have been giving her look a few hundred times. The few touches we got on this serve were pure luck, because we had our eyes closed. Besides not being able to pass the jump server we played well.

All in all the play day was a wonderful experience.
