Day 3, March 22, 2005
By Jessica Houts
Today we started our journey to Pesaro through the countryside of Italy. Everywhere we looked we saw beautiful scenery consisting of rolling hills, snowy mountains and small towns built into the rocky walls. Once in awhile we saw some old castles on the top of the hills, each one more elaborate than the last. We traveled up the roads that winded around the hills, some of the turns were almost a 180 degree turnaround.

We stopped for “Piadine” on the way in Caporio.
When we got to Comunanza we met Massimo and ate at a quaint restaurant called “da Ernesto”. After we ate our food we walked up to the gym that we were going to be practicing at. When we got there we were locked out and did not have a key to change so some of us went behind the building and changed to our practice uniforms there.

Pranzo at Ernesto’s in Comunanza.
Our practice started out slow today because we were still adjusting to the jet lag and the altitude that we were at. We practiced our serve receive and hitting to get used to how the ball floated in the air at the different altitude. Some of the townspeople came and watched us practice.

After our practice was done we went to some of the stores that were in town. Massimo took us to a gym that was American-based because the owner loves Americans. When we got there he turned on the Star Spangled Banner and Born in the USA. It was awesome.
After shopping we headed back to the bus and continued on our way to Pesaro. As we were leaving when we looked back we could see the sunset the outlines of the hills and the villages.

The “Marche” Region out the bus window…
Editor’s Note: Many thanks to Massimo and the people of Comunanza for their continued hospitality and support of anything “pallavolo” (volleyball). For those of you that don’t know about it, Comunanza hosts the annual International “Sibillini” Tournament “Arnaldo Prosperi”. For the last 6 years BIP has been fortunate enough to enter 2 USA Teams in this u20 event in June/July.
