Kaepa Northern Lights European Tour: July 10-22, 2005

Day 9

By Hailey Cowles,U16’s

Our first day in Maribor began when we were privileged with a late breakfast at 9:00am. The breakfast was one of the best of the tour so far. Their croissants were especially delicious. Naomi and Lauren thought the pudding was fantastic. During breakfast we met Nejc (Nate). He is a seventeen year old volleyball player from Maribor who will be our tour guide during our stay. Having nothing planned for the rest of the morning, we had the opportunity to relax for three hours or ride on a gondola to the top of the mountain. After naps, laundry, bees and television, we finally prepared for our matches.

When we arrived at the gym we were thrilled to find it was air-conditioned. We played the first match of the day against a Maribor youth club team. Their ages ranged from 17-19. We played strong the entire match, crushing our opponent 25-8 and 25-16. The 17’s played back-to-back matches against a Czech club team and the same Maribor team that we played earlier. The 17’s also played well today, winning both matches in two games each.

During the 17’s second match we entertained ourselves by walking around the small town of Fram, with a population of about 2000 people. The scenery was beautiful, with the cute houses and breathtaking flowers. On our way back to the gym we stopped for some ice cream.

When we returned to the hotel we decided to go for a dip in the pool. After our swim we beatified ourselves for dinner. We went to a Cuban-like restaurant where we were served a delicious meal. We had soup, salad and a chicken wrap. For dessert Cory treated us to another serving of ice cream. After a satisfying and relaxing day, we were ready for a good night sleep. We hope that tomorrow be as rewarding as today.
