USA Jr A2 Women's Volleyball Team
Journal Entry #3, Day 4, July 18
By Hillary Trebels, University of Virginia & Morgan Odale, Idaho Stars & Utah '10
Hey Everybody! Today is our last full day in Switzerland and we've had a great time here in Zuchwil. This morning we had practice and worked on defense and attacking out of system. We feel to be successful at the Global Challenge we must be aggressive attacking out of system. We worked on defense and focusing on moving forward and floor moves.
During the middle part of practice we ran a wash drill against the BIP/USA Team. The drill was 2-ball-wash initiated by a serve. The team who won the first ball received the second ball which was a 'virus' ball. In the drill, Hillary's shoe fell off mid-play, she kicked it off the court and still stuffed someone for a point. During our last bit of practice, we fine-tuned our offense and Morgan perfected her topspin for her serve. Everyone's attacking skills improved through concentrating on smart shots such as using the blockers.
After practice we had lunch and got ready for a day in Solothurn. Solothurn is a BEAU-tiful city and we are so glad we got to explore it. Hillary took 250+ pictures mainly of buildings with shutters and flower boxes (see the gallery for a smattering). We all really enjoyed the chocolatiers and the beauty of the cathedral in the center of town.
Tomorrow we leave bright and early for our ~14 hour bus ride to Pula, Croatia and are hoping to make it in time for the 8:00pm Opening Ceremonies in the center. |
