This morning we woke early to play the UAE. Everyone was tired from the
previous match, but we still were able to wake up and be ready to play. In
the first and second games, we stayed with the UAE until about 14, then they
went on huge runs to close each game, 25-19 and 25-18. The third game was
back and forth, but the UAE ended up winning 25-23. In the fourth game, for
extra training, we came out and took down the UAE 25-23. Even though we
lost, we were still able to see the tendencies of the UAE and become much
better prepared for our next match against them.
After having lunch at the Olympic Training Center where we stayed, the team
packed everything up and got in the vans for the long haul to Maribor.
Although the drive was long, it was filled with sleeping, games, and one of
the greatest moments, Kniff getting pulled over by the police (Editor's
Note: It was a routine passport check. All good.). After pulling off into a
stop with several huge semis, the policeman walked up and started talking in
Slovenian. Kniff just gave him a blank stare and said, "I don't understand
anything you are saying." It was one of the greatest quotes on the trip, by
far. We were able to get out without a ticket, and we finally arrived at our
hotel in Maribor.
Once we got to the hotel, we got our rooms, set down our bags, and headed
out on the town. We wandered around the Center, eventually sitting down to
eat at McDonalds for a snack and getting gelato. We did shopping and saw
various sights in the town, but we were able to finish up in time to get
back to the hotel and head out to dinner. Dinner was at this place about 15
minutes away, but it was amazing. There was chicken, sausage, corn on the
cobb, and bread. It was one of the best meals I had on the trip. After
dinner we came back to the hotel, relaxed, and started preparing ourselves
mentally for the next day versus The Slovenian Youth/Junior National Team
(morning match) and a professional Slovenian team (in the evening). |
