7/17/02- by Whitney: Munich, Germany

We arrived in Munich at 8:30 am. After we got through customs and got our luggage we ate breakfast at Burger King. We waited for Mrs. Dillan, Tara, and Jodie to join our group and then hiked to our bus with all of our luggage! We drove downtown to go shopping and shopped for a couple of hours, then met for lunch. We ate at a buffet style restaurant call Munches. We all loaded the bus and headed for Sonthoven!

7/18- by Meredith & Natalie: Sonthoven, Germany

After a 2-hour drive from Munich, we arrived in Sonthoven. As soon as we got there we went to practice. It was weird, because everywhere we played there were suspended floors. After practice, we left to get pizza. On the way to the pizzeria Ashley, Danielle, Natalie, Andie and photo–Matt got left behind while getting ice cream. About 30 minutes later they finally caught up with us after an unexpected tour of Sonthoven. The next morning we got up and by 9am we were off to the Disneyland Castle. From the outside the castle was amazing, but when on the tour inside, only 5 rooms were finished. A few didn’t go on the tour, but instead hiked around the mountain and up to the waterfall. We came to Germany expecting nothing special and really it was really amazing. After leaving the town we went back to the hotel to get ready to go play. During the match we didn’t play up to our potential and only won 1 game. After the match we all went to take showers and get ready. Being our first night to do this, we didn’t understand the speedy part about it. Finally, we were off to the hotel where the local girls met us for dinner. The girls were really sweet and one spoke English very well, so she translated for the others. During our talk we found out that they were from ages 13-15, when we thought they were about 17. They had to leave pretty early because they had school the next day. So once they left Carrie, Ashley, Meredith, and Andi decided we wanted some ice cream. Although we weren’t sure if it was open. We got our ice cream and just sat there for awhile when Ashley decided to be friendly and say hey to these guys that we walking by. Unexpectedly they came over and talked and 2 of the 4 spoke English. They were nice but we had to go. On our way back we saw Casey, Andie, Danielle, and Kristen walking to get ice cream when we told them that it had just closed, so we all tuned around and went home. After getting back Carrie, Meredith, Andi, Andie, Natalie and Ashley all went downstairs to talk to us and the other chaperones. We came down and they were all passing around a “boot”. We sat downstairs talking until about 12, when we headed up to bed. During headcount we realized 2 were missing. They had gone to a club but soon returned so were off to bed. The next day we woke with our normal routine and then headed off in the bus to Vilsbiburg.

European Protocol - Team Line-up

7/19- by Ashley & Tara: Vilsbiburg, Germany

When we first got to Vilsviburg we had a picnic lunch by the river. It was really pretty. Then we went shopping in the town. Most of us went inside this gorgeous church. We went down into the basement that was built in 1204 and it looked really medieval. The priests were buried there under the stone floor. When we were done shopping we drove to our Guest House in the country. While we waited to get our keys for our rooms we went and looked at the ponies next door. One of the ponies got loose later on and we saw some kids chasing it. That night we played a local team with players that ranged from ages 13 to 36. We went 1-5 with the red team winning one game. We really should have won more games but we did not play our best. After the game we went out to eat with the team we played. It was interesting trying to talk to the players who couldn’t speak very good English. We almost had to finish the tour by ourselves because we left Brooke, our “tour guide” at the restaurant. We thought she was getting a ride. We were sad when we left the next day because it was the biggest and cleanest place we stayed at.

7/22-7/24 – Anonymous: Maribor, Slovenia

The team had a long bus ride to Maribor, Slovenia. Before the first match the team took the gondolas up the mountain called Pohorje. At the top there were horses and a few of the girls went horseback riding. Both matches in Maribor were against team Benedikt; a tiny town right outside of Maribor. At night a few of the girls got together and wrote a song that sums up the tour while Andie played guitar. It goes a little something like this…
“Cruisin’ 120 on the autobahn…Frank behind the wheel so ya better hold on. Ice cream crew on their morning grind….Danielle & Andie are lagging behind. Later that night two disappeared…Grandama was tired after two boots of beer. 3am finally in bed ….knock, knock, knock & up pops a head.
Brooke was late, Frank was tired, CJ miscounted & our tour guide was f…i…r…e…d! (j/k) Games at our favorite Czech Pub…let to chaos at a 4 story club. A bird pooped on Meredith’s hair….our waitress doesn’t like her armpits bare. Danny tried to mack on our coach CJ…that’s all we’ve written, but that’s ok!

7/25 – Anonymous: Innsbruck, Austria

The tour headed from Maribor to Innsbruck, where the Alabama team dominated the match against the Austrians. The last dinner was spent in a restaurant up in the mountains overlooking the beautiful town of Innsbruck. At dinner a couple of the girls held an awards ceremony that captured and reflected upon the “priceless moments” of the Alabama tour.
