When Tim Kelly and three of his closest friends first traveled to Nicaragua in 2004 they were exposed to the beauty, both natural and cultural, of the country. They also saw just how much the people were in need. Out of both the beauty and this need grew Operation Nica.
In hopes of creating a synergy between Nicaragua and the volleyball world of Bring It Promotions, Tim ran a volleyball tour with CJ Sherman & Co in Nicaragua in 2005. The two visiting junior teams from Jacksonville, Florida brought bags and bags of equipment to donate and the tour was a huge success.
Since then Operation Nica has become each and every one of the people involved in the tours, community service projects, or even just friends who are willing to bring their efforts and/or money to Nicaragua.
The future of Operation Nica, whatever that may be, is very exciting. Our goals are to continue bringing people to Nicaragua that are willing to donate their time and/or money as well as continue to build relationships that will open doors to more community service projects in and around the community of San Juan del Sur and Nicaragua.
We have committed to continue bringing down equipment for not only the volleyball teams in Nicaragua, but other sports team as well. Anything that we can get our hands on will, without a doubt, be put to good use. The former mayor, Eduardo Holmann, has communicated with BIP to plan what the city of San Juan Del Sur needs the most and we are searching for ways to get it donated and delivered. They recently built a sports complex just outside the city center and are looking for a Sport Court, some basketball stands, and a set of bleachers. The search goes on with help and guidance from the current administration as well.
We are also looking forward to bringing more university and youth teams down to compete against the local teams and do some volunteer work during their visit.
The opportunities are endless.
