Why Nicaragua? Two years ago BIP’s Owner, Tim Kelly, came down to Nicaragua with his childhood friends to explore one of the two remaining Central American countries not yet traveled by this tight knit group. Planned mostly as a surf trip, they never lost sight of their dream to own property “south of the border.” As it turns out, and much to their surprise, Nicaragua was just what they were looking for.
It was election day 2004, and Tim and his friends were in the Pacific waters catching waves when they met Henkel Smith from Water’s Edge Realty, who would eventually become their realtor. Now, two years later they own a second home and some property and are developing an 18-unit townhouse community called Brisas de Palermo. (www.brisasdepalermo.com)
What’s in store for the future? BIP would love to continue bringing down equipment for not only the volleyball teams in Nicaragua, but other sports team as well. Anything that we can get our hands on will, without a doubt, be put to good use. The mayor, Eduardo Holmann, has communicated with BIP to plan what the city of San Juan Del Sur needs the most and we are searching for ways to get it donated and delivered. They recently built a sports complex just outside the city center and are looking for a Sport Court, some basketball stands, and a set of bleachers.
We are also looking forward to bringing more universities and youth teams down to compete against the local teams and do some volunteer work during their visit.
The opportunities are endless.
