Nicaragua 2008

Day 1, Thursday, June 12, 2008
Arrival Day, Managua
By Alexia, Jacksonville FL

This morning we got up really early to travel to Orlando. Some people slept while others had to keep the driver awake. We almost missed our flight to Ft. Lauderdale, but we made with 3 inutes to spare. After we landed in Ft. Lauderdale, we had a really long layover. Some of us played a new game we invented called Fronds. We ate pizza, and caught up with the rest of the group. The plane ride to Managua was not bad. After we landed in Managua, we put our stuff in the hotel right across the street and got ready to play against the Nicaraguan Junior National Team. On our way to the match we visited the Sandino Monument at Tiscapa and learned a little about the history of Nicaragua and the city of Managua. There is a great view of the entire city and lakefront from Tiscapa, but we didn¹t have much time to spend up there because we were running late for our game.

We didn¹t play our best because we had traveled all day and we were very tired, but we won in 4 sets and everyone got to play. After the match we went back to the hotel for a nice buffet meal next to the pool and got to bed early.
