MEZVA Tournament 2008 / 2009
USA Youth Team
Day 1, Arrival Day
December 27, 2009
By Tori Dixon, Northern Lights

Yesterday I started my day very early when I woke up at 5:30am to catch my 8:00am. It was nawesome. Molly, Ash, and I flew from Minneapolis to New York where we had an eight hour layover. Durring this time we played with our new pet pigeon who stayed at the airport, “Willy the 2nd”. Afterwards we watched “You Got Served” and laid around for a couple hours. We ate, a lot, and then surpised Erica at her gate. Then we flew to Venice, Italy.

When we got to Venice, we had to go through the passport line, and got our bags. After that, we took a city bus into the center of Venice. It was a gorgeous clear day, but really cold. We just walked around and looked at all the sights and stores. We ate at a good pizza place, and then walked around some more. The city was awesome but at the end we tried to get back to the bus station area (Piazale Roma) and got lost and couldn't find our way back. Eventually we made it back to the bus and rode back to the airport to meet up with the California and Illinois girls that flew in later in the day.

Once we were all together we took a bus through Slovenia and over to Croatia. It was about three hours long, but a lot of us slept the whole way. When we got here to Pula, we checked into our hotel and chose our roomate(s). We had about fifteen miniutes to change, and then we went to a local school for a quick practice. We only practiced for about an hour and worked on some basic things to get used to the new Mikasa balls, and this new team that we’ll play with. After practice, we came back to the hotel, had a big buffet dinner, hung around for a little bit, and went to bed. We’re looking forward to the tournament and seeing what kind of competition we’ll have here
