MEZVA Tournament 2008 / 2009
January 1, 2009
By Erica Denney, Front Range Volleyball Club

Today we started the day off like any other day with buffet breakfast, but thankfully since last night we stayed up so late for new years we got to sleep in till 9:30, woohoo!  Then we headed back to the rooms and got ready for practice at noon.

On the way to the gym we could already tell that practice would be tough because we looked like walking zombies and couldn¹t stay upright. Sadly our predictions were correct and practice wasn¹t the best in the world for anyone. But prior to the beginning of practice we found out that we locked all of our stuff in the locker room with the key inside! That was just great and after practice all 11 of us crammed ourselves in a little hallway waiting for Cory to get a hold of the guy who works there, because it was new years and he wasn¹t in yet, so we sat there for what seemed to be forever. But don¹t worry, we got our stuff back finally. Thanks Zoran! In practice we did passing drills, blocking/hitting drills, 6 on 5 drills serving drills, and game like situation drills.

After wandering back to the hotel after practice we went to get lunch and it was super fancy. Of course we were all still in our smelly sweaty volleyball clothes in the restaurant where they actually gave us different courses and gave us our plates and everything. It was a sight to see.

After lunch we had a short team meeting and scattered off to our individual rooms to shower and nap and whatever else our hearts desired as long as it was within the hotel. We also had "positional meetings" with the coaching staff for 15 minutes at a time. We went over stats and basically learned and talked about what we need to work on to be better at our respective positions.

At 6pm we met down in the lobby to catch a gondola to the top of the mountain for dinner. The ride took about 15 minutes and was really fun. At the restaurant we had traditional Slovenian & Serbian food, which appeared to be all meat and bread. Most of it was really good, and some of it was interesting, but all in all a good experience. After dinner we went back down to the hotel and just hung out in the lobby/in our rooms and now we are finally going to bed to prep for our crazy day ahead of us tomorrow.
