Union College Nicaragua 2009
Day 7

We woke up early and had a nice breakfast which consisted of pancakes and O.J.  It was a nice change from our typical eggs with rice and beans.  After breakfast we loaded up the van and headed to Lake Nicaragua.  From the landing we took a boat ride around the isletas within Lake Nicaragua.  Lake Nicaragua consists of over 350 isletas, many of which are private home residences.   One of the isletas had a family of monkeys on it which the locals call "Monkey Island".  Visiting Monkey Island was quite an experience.  It was very funny to watch the monkey's interact with the visitors. When we pulled up the monkeys were sitting on the trees waiting for us to pull up close enough for them to jump on our boats.  At first, everyone was scared of the monkeys which was very funny.  We brought with us a bag of chips to feed the monkeys (apparently these monkeys prefer chips and cashews over bananas!)   All of us grabbed a handful of chips to feed the monkeys by hand.   Upon seeing our chips, the monkeys immediately jumped on to our boat and grabbed the entire bag of chips right out of Leslie's hands!  Another monkey decided to pull Meg's ponytail prior to returning into the trees.   Our visit to Monkey island was a ton of fun.  After the boat tour we returned to the hotel to pack up our bags and load up the bus.    While waiting on the bus for our luggage to be loaded, we enjoyed people watching around the Granada's central park.  There was lots of action among the locals to keep us entertained.  During our wait, we even witnessed a "car accident" between a car and a horse-drawn carriage.  The lady driving the SUV in the accident got every upset and called the Policia, but the Policia just told her to not worry about it and continue on her way because there was nothing anyone could do.  Meanwhile crowds gathered around to watch the spectacle.  The entire event was very entertaining.  Once are bags were packed up we headed on our way to visit the Masaya Market.  Afterwards we ate lunch at the Gallerias and then continued on to the gym to play our final game.  Even though we lost our match, our final game was the closest yet.  We played together and had a lot of fun for our last night in Nicaragua.  Finally we returned to a hotel to shower, eat dinner and return to the airport for our plane trip back to the good-ole- USA!
